Orchid Care Videos Offer Tips for New Just Add Ice Orchid Owners

orchid care videosIf you recently gave a Just Add Ice Orchid as a holiday, birthday, or just-because gift, make sure you let the recipient know about the helpful Orchid Care Videos available on our Just Add Ice Orchids website.

New Just Add Ice Orchid owners will be delighted with the beauty of their new Phalaenopsis orchid plant and touched by your thoughtfulness; but they may be a little nervous about taking care of their new Just Add Ice Orchid. You can put their mind at ease by telling them about our library of helpful Orchid Care Videos.

Orchids have a reputation for being high maintenance and difficult to grow. Some people even think of orchids as the “divas” of the plant world. While this may be true of some of the more delicate flowers and hybrids in the orchid family, it is not true of hearty Just Add Ice Orchids. America’s favorite orchid, Phalaenopsis orchids, require little care, thrive in nearly any indoor environment, grow equally well in both natural and artificial light, and are incredibly easy to water. Just add three ice cubes to the orchid’s pot once a week and you’re done!

But these are things new Just Add Ice Orchid owners may have yet to learn. You might also encourage the gift recipient to sign up for our free weekly orchid watering reminders, a great way to help make sure they get off to a good start on caring for their new Just Add Ice Orchid.

I hit the jackpot yesterday at Lowe's and bought 12 Orchids at 75% off and i also bought Orchid potting medium and the bag of bark. I started repotting the small potted ones first and the spaghum moss was tight around the roots and soggy. The most had rotten roots on the bottom with a few roots on top that still looked ok. I handled carefully because they are in bloom and held the plant at desired height in empty pot and started filling the mix in and finished with bark on top and i left some roots that can be seen and breathe on top. I am hoping for the best, I know they have to be happier than they were. I wonder also why they sell these that way knowing if someone doesn't buy them they will rot in that soggy mess as they cannot breathe. Everyone of them was soggy wet and had rotten or rotting roots. There was at least 2 hundred there that was not marked down and all of them were packaged the same way. This must be why a lot of first time Orchid buyers get discouraged and give up on these beautiful plants.

My daughter got me an "Just Add Ice Cubes" orchid for Valentines day. It has many blooms and a few buds. A few have already fallen off, and a few look like they are about to fall off. After reading some of the information I look at the roots on it. They are a greyish white. What do I need to do to get them back to green?

Christina,
Add an additional ice cube or two until the grayish-white roots turn green after the ice cubes have melted. Then resume normal care of your Just Add Ice Orchid. Nancy,
Do not water your orchid until the roots turn grayish-white, which may take up to 2 weeks. You may then resume watering with 3 ice cubes weekly. Be sure to empty any extra water in the bottom of the decorative pot after each watering, as orchid roots should not sit in excess water.
