Diane,
Just Add Ice Orchids should be repotted every one to two years. The main reason for repotting is to replace the media the orchid is growing in. Repot your orchid in a pot with drainage holes, as orchids hate to sit in water. For more information, please visit "Care after Blooming" section on the website. There is a great repotting video blog on the website as well.

My orchid was a gift and it was beautiful. It has been about 6 weeks and I did as the tag said, give three ice cubes for water. This I did. The blossoms started to fall off about last week and it looks like the end of the stem is dried out and died. The roots were outgrowing the pot so I transplanted it into a little larger pot and added potting soil and watered again. What is your recommendation for rehaping it and make it beautiful again. OR have I killed it. NEED HELP NOW. Caroline

Caroline,
When the flower spike turns yellow/brown, this is an indicator that no new buds will form on that old flower spike. Remove the entire flower spike an inch from the base of the plant, which will allow the plant to put more energy back into the roots and leaves. Typically, Just Add Ice Orchids should be repotted every one to two years, the main reason being to replace the media the orchid was growing in. You will want to repot your Just Add Ice Orchid in media that is specific to orchids. Also, be sure that the new container has drainage holes as orchids do not like to sit in water. You may want to check out "Repotting Orchids" on the website for more details and an instructional video.

My Just Add Ice Orchid, my husband gave me last mothers days, had beautiful flowers and they lasted a long time. When the flowers spikes died I cut them back to one inch. NOW I have a brand new flower spike starting. I am so excited! Also in-between the flowers growing my orchid grew a new leaf! So I am guessing I am doing everything correctly!!! Thanks for all the wonderful information on your site!

My beautiful ice orchid lasted 4 months before
all the blooms dropped off. Now if I can get it
to bloom again. Of course, I now have 3 new ones. I'm afraid I'm hooked. I gave 4 for Christmas. They are unbelievable!!!

My new phal last year got a new flower spike this year. The buds became about the size of a grape, turned dark & dropped off. Can you tell me why?

Bud,

Currently, all Just Add Ice Orchids are Phalaenopsis Orchids, which are one of the longest blooming orchids available. Due to the extensive number of different Phalaenopsis varieties, each variety is identified by a number and not a name

R,
Premature orchid flower loss could be a result of sudden temperature changes, low temperatures, when the plant is too dry, or when the plant's roots are experiencing problems. Check the color of your orchid's roots. Well-watered roots should be a healthy green color, while grayish-white roots indicate more water is needed.
